The 2024 Southeastern CT Youth Climate Summit was held on March 7th at the Port n Starboard at Ocean Beach State Park. This exciting event was organized by the Marine Science Magnet High School (MSMHS) Environmental Club with support from MSMHS faculty and leadership, the Town of Groton, the City of Groton, and the Alliance for the Mystic River Watershed. In addition to MSMHS, students and teachers from Fitch High School, Norwich Free Academy, and Norwich Technical High School participated in the event.
This event was designed to bring together students from across the region with local and state government representatives, non-profit organizations, and elected officials working towards achieving environmental sustainability in Connecticut. The 2024 summit theme was water quality and its intersection with climate change. Breakout sessions focused on environmental justice, water quality monitoring, political action, ecological restoration, and pollution prevention.
