The Town of Groton has developed its first town‑wide Climate Action and Resilience Plan. This plan will help Groton prepare for climate change while protecting the people, places, and resources that make our community special. The full draft document is now available for public viewing, and the Town is accepting public comments from May 26 through June 12.

Across Groton, residents are seeing the effects of climate change, including heavier rain, flooding, rising sea levels, and hotter summers. These changes affect our neighborhoods, roads, homes, natural areas, and daily life. Climate‑Ready Groton brings together community input and technical studies to address these challenges in practical and local ways.
The planning process began with studies to better understand climate risks and sources of greenhouse gas pollution in Groton. Using this information, the Town developed clear goals and actions to reduce emissions and build resilience for the future.
The Climate‑Ready Groton Plan focuses on five main areas:
Buildings and Energy: Focuses on saving energy and increasing clean energy use.
Community Preparedness and Resilience: Focuses on keeping people safe during storms, heat waves, and other emergencies.
Infrastructure and Land Use: Focuses on roads, buildings, and planning decisions that reduce risk from flooding and other climate impacts.
Natural Resources and Consumption: Focuses on protecting natural areas and reducing waste.
Transportation and Mobility: Focuses on cleaner transportation options and safer ways to get around Town.
Public input remains a key part of this final effort. A full presentation of the draft plan will be held on Monday, June 8th at 5:30 p.m. at Thrive 55+. If you cannot attend in person, you can join live via Zoom (Zoom Meeting Link), and a recording of the presentation will be made available afterward. Following the conclusion of the public comment window on June 12, all feedback will be reviewed, and the final draft will be presented to the Town Council in July for consideration and adoption.
