Splash Pads
Family friendly splash pads would be great for all: small kids to seniors, and for those w/ physical impairments; a splash pad would also be more inclusive than a pool.

I'm a master gardener. What an unsightly mess north of the old fire station to the top of Fort Hill. We need some pleasing plantings there
That area is an eyesore and needs fencing and perennial plants to beautify that area. It's what people see when they arrive in Groton. I live on Bayberry Lane and think this area could be vastly improved.

Wood crest area park - basketball/pickleball area
There is an open field that never gets used off Dartmouth Dr. in Mystic - there is a small playground but it’s not wheelchair accessible- if the park could be updated - update playground - add a basketball court with two Pickleball courts on it and a track around it for walking / biking/ skating - this would get a lot of neighborhood use. Maybe add picnic tables. Again it is just an empty field.

Designated playgrounds
Designated playgrounds for different age groups; toddlers, children and teenagers. Tricentennial playground gets very busy and it can be challenging for small children when bigger kids or teenagers are running around, playing intense games of tag, climbing up the slides or rough playing. The parking lot also fills up quickly with sporting events.

Town Center
Groton really needs a town green/center to complete with other towns for other than sports related recreation. For instance this winter season we have seen the Town of Stonington shine bright with the Lobster Trap Tree, Olde Mystic Village lights with activities from music to food events, the Starry Lights in Pawcatuck/Westerly. All are happening around a town green/center/park and really has created a sense of community. Groton just doesn't have the appropriate space for these activities in the center of town right now to bring this community together. I do know that luminara walk, etc. is being held, but I am referring to our "center". PLEASE take Claude Chester and create a multi-use property that has a sense of community - use it for all it can be used for - yes for sports, yes for an outdoor pavillion, yes for other community activities (I know a pool is a big request - while I'm not in much favor of it - if that is what is necessary to make this community come together than let's do it!). And let's do it fast! The thought of another 5 to 10 years before anything is done is a depressing thought!! Thank you - I know you are all working hard on all these projects.
