NIMBY

My husband travels for his work in CT. So many hotels cannot get help, that the cleaning is neglected and many of the hotels are limited in renting rooms, and they are disgustingly dirty. My husbands stays in people’s homes for one or two nights for less than half the cost of a hotel. In most cases, the owner of the home is doing their own cleaning and preparations. I’m not knocking the hotels, bc most businesses today have trouble getting help. He used to ask the hotel to see the room before he paid over a $100. That was futile, bc the conditions are usually the same, dilapidated and not clean. Have you been in a hotel room in Groton? I’ve seen them. The taxes in CT are so high, how can you stop a homeowner for having a home business and taking in boarders to be able pay their taxes? Regardless of zoning, people have always taken in boarders in Groton as long as I have been alive. As long as the STR home business has exactly the same conditions of a Long term property, how can you stop someone from renting their home? What is the difference between someone who sleeps in the home for a week or a year, it’s the constitutional right of a homeowner as long as you do not infringe on others’ Liberties. The same people who are renting their homes long term, are the ones complaining about short term rentals. People love this area and the businesses here need the STR homes. And most importantly, have you seen the conditions of the STR? A long term rental, can turn into a slum, but I have NEVER seen a STR look other than gorgeous! NIMBY whining again. STRs have been here in Groton since the 50’s. Most people just never noticed! Bc they weren’t looking to rent a property! Now you have a bunch of people not recognizing progress and now we are in a sharing economy.

I guess they don’t know how to share and work together with their neighbors. People just want to complain. They do it all the time on Social Media. If they have a problem they should talk to their neighbors or call the police.
