The Town of Groton has a quintessential coastal Main Street in Noank Village, but it requires some improvements. The Town would like to address deficiencies in existing pavement conditions, improve pedestrian connectivity and ADA accessibility, enhance streetscaping features, implement complete streets strategies, and improve stormwater quality entering the Long Island Sound. Input and support of the community will be key to the project’s success. Key dates are available on this webpage. Updates will be provided throughout the duration of this project with updates on events and documents through the news feed. There are multiple ways to offer feedback on this website through the map, public input, survey, news feed, quick polls, or email links. Use one or use them all!

I would like to agree with and support every detail of Andrew Blacker’s letter outlining the aspects we wish to protect in Noank Village. Please realize he has carefully detailed that keeping the historic simplicity is what keeps our village attractive.
I would emphatically add that no public art be added in any shape or form to the street scape. No more cute reproduction street lamps. We are an authentic village. The ones placed by the town dock should be removed.
Sincerely,
Sloan Rankin Keck

There are many opinions on what to do with the main street rebuild. I think most will agree on the following points:
Keep the street wide. Very important for boat deliveries and other delivery trucks.
Keep the sidewalks wide.
Put overhead utilities underground from firehouse on ward ave to main street and from that intersection to church street.
Add environmentally compliant storm drains.
Sidewalks on north side of main street should be kept wide as they see lots of foot traffic. Also there are bike racks and parade concessions and the band sets up there during parades. Carsons sets... Continue reading

The width of Main Street at Riverview Avenue needs to be left as wide as possible to allow large fuel and trailer trucks to navigate that turn. If a sidewalk is installed starting at Pearl Street going East down the hill to Riverview Avenue, it needs to be south of the existing road surface and curbing needs to be added. The property owners on that... Continue reading
